NBC officially picks up “quarterlife” – airdate: spring 2008

Blogged in Devon Gummersall by admin Friday November 16, 2007

The rumors were true: The broadcast network NBC has picked up the new Bedford Falls production “quarterlife” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The network will premiere the show as an hour-long drama series midseason after it concludes its run on the Internet early in 2008 and will also stream it on nbc.com.

While NBC will become a distribution partner for online, DVD and foreign markets, Herskovitz and Zwick will still retain full ownership and creative control of the series.

The new web series “quarterlife” by the producers of “My So-Called Life”, Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, has launched on November 11th on MySpace.com and November 12th on www.quarterlife.com.

Devon Gummersall (”Brian Krakow” from “My So-Called Life”) wrote episodes #4 and #5, his brother Josh Gummersall is co-producer of “quarterlife” and Devon’s wife Majandra Delfino stars in four of the 36, eight-minute episodes. Also, Greg Gummersall’s (Devon’s and Josh’s father) art is featured in numerous sets/scenes.

Article in the Los Angeles Times by Marshall Herskovitz

Blogged in MSCL by admin Friday November 9, 2007

The Los Angeles Times prints today an article written by Marshall Herskovitz about how he has quit producing for TV (for now) and moved to broadband.

After 20 years and five series, including “thirtysomething” and “My So-Called Life,” my partner, Ed Zwick, and I have — for the time being at least — stopped producing television programs.
[..]
Producers are now employees, not creators. If you were foolish enough to independently produce a TV pilot today, when you took it to the network, you would give up at least half of your ownership and all of your control, even though the network wouldn’t pay any more than it used to pay as that old license fee.
